The Bloggect

Bloggect: (blaw·jĕct) 1. A blog project

The other day, I was emailing with Mrs. Big Dubya about what the Mister should get her for Mothers' Day. Those of you who have been reading his blog for a while know that the lil Dubya made quite a dramatic entrance and that the Mrs. had a tough time. I told her that she should declare May to be "I've had a baby so I can do whatever I want" (IHABSICDWIW) month. We could make up traditions, such as burning a different candle each day like they do during Kwaaaaanza and assigning different meaning to each one. Since this is a new holiday, we pretty much have free reign to make stuff up. The first candle for the first day of IHABSICDWIW is the "Reading a book in an empty house and not feeling guilty that I should be doing something more productive" candle. This candle represents every woman's need to have someone whisk the kids away for a few hours every so often so she can read without being interrupted by somebody under 4 feet tall.

With Mothers' Day coming up, I thought it would be fun to ask some bloggers whom I admire to write about mothers and mothering. The response was amazing. We have an all-star lineup of bloggers who will be contributing essays on their own sites in the days leading up to Mothers' Day. With a list like this:
Chag from Cynical Dad
Kristen from Home on the Fringe
The Misfit Hausfrau
Warren from Mr. Big Dubya
Tony form Cheeky's Hideaway
Pierre from Metro Dad
Kristen from Motherhood Uncensored
The one and only MIM
Candace from Suburban Misfit
Mary P from It's not all Mary Poppins
Mrs Big Dubya
Jason from Pet Cobra
Kevin from IFLYG
Andie D. from Grumppopatomus
Melissa from Issa's World
Beth from LaLaLa Land
Beth from So the Fish said
Matthew from Childs Play x2
Kara from Cape Buffalo
Rebecca from (This) Girl's Gone Child
Eric from More Diapers
L from The Homesick home
Jennifer from Beyond First Impressions
Arwen from Anthropologist for Corporate America
mr. nice guy
a special guest star at Friday Playdate
Sarah from Sarah and the Goon Squad
Jenorama!
The Weirdgirl
how can you go wrong? I hope you'll visit them throughout the month and write a tribute of your own (let us know when you do!).

And even if you don't contribute an essay, you can still get in on the ground floor of IHABSICDWIW month. We have customs to invent and candles that need to have meaning assigned to them. What should we add?
